During the week of Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for DUI.
Five of the drivers were involved in traffic collisions. Three were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna and Kona, six each; Hilo, five; South Kohala, two; Ka‘u and North Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 725 DUI arrests compared to 746 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.7%.
There have been 627 major collisions so far this year compared to 619 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.3%.
To date, there have been 14 official traffic fatalities compared to 27 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 48.1%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
